What is coaching?

Coaching is partnership that focuses on your strengths and skills to help you maximize your potential. You establish your goals and desired outcomes. Working together, we’ll examine issues, challenge assumptions, and make plans to achieve your objectives.

Working with faith-based social entrepreneurs in LA

Coaching helps people make choices that lead to positive action, as well as long-term personal/professional growth and development. The process is both exploratory and goal-oriented. It is designed to help you both better understand yourself and how you work, but also to help you move forward, to get from point A to point B.

I work with clients through a confidential one-on-one process to increase their effectiveness as leaders and managers. Coaching focuses not only on what we are doing, but also who we are being, and how to more fully engage and express our most effective and authentic selves.

What are the results?

My job is to help you tap into the strengths you already possess but haven’t fully developed. But playing to your strengths as a leader isn’t enough. You also must build great teams of people with complementary skills and strengths. After working with me, clients feel more confident, competent, and comfortable in their leadership and management skills. Tapping into your strengths changes everything about how you work: from how you run meetings, to how you work with your board, to generating new business and funding. Having an effective coach is like having a secret ally that multiplies your ability to get things done, while lowering your stress and enjoying your work more fully.

By working with you on everything from the micro to the macro, we can transform the way you work, lead, and manage. Whether that means preparing for a big presentation, a difficult conversation, planning a big new project, negotiating a joint venture, facilitating a board retreat, or re-thinking your organization’s mission.

What is Organizational & Team Coaching?

Joshua Avedon works with the coaching team at Junction - OpportUNITY in Barcelona

Often workplaces with strong individuals have difficulty maximizing everyone’s contribution while working together smoothly. In addition to one-on-one executive coaching, I also work with entire organizations and teams to find new ways to improve performance and group cohesion. Sometimes it takes an outside set of eyes to help organizations and individuals get unstuck from ways of thinking that aren’t working. I specialize in helping to cut through the clutter of information, viewpoints, and priorities to evaluate your current situation, and clarify what needs to get done to achieve your goals.

Why should we work together?

I’m an accomplished nonprofit and business professional who has helped dozens of organizations, and hundreds of leaders focus, scale, and deepen the impact of their work. Before getting my MBA in nonprofit management, I spent ten years as a strategist and communication specialist for a series of web and tech startups — as well as on my own as a hired gun for the same kinds of businesses. I learned how to use information effectively, think on my feet, and build plans to complete projects with agility and speed.

My combination of business-building skills and nonprofit knowledge is unique. I’ve worked for over a decade in the Jewish communal sphere, and have a deep understanding of the structural and sociological issues facing Jewish and other faith-based organizations in the 21st century. I’m an expert in innovation, startups, and data-driven decision making to create better policies and programs.

Most importantly I can help because I’ve been there. I’ve worked to create and scale a number of new organizations, as well as help transform more established ones. Throughout, I’ve worked side-by-side with leaders who have followed their dreams to create unique projects that have measurable impact. I know the challenges and concerns of innovators in both new and established organizations and can help you address them effectively. I’ve worked globally with executives and boards to facilitate internal transformation in order to strengthen their organizational missions and make the world a better place.
